Important! Right to Rent changes from 6 April

Yet more changes to the Right to Rent procedures will come in from 6th April as a new code of practice is launched which sees a big shift to online practice.

Key information -

  • Biometric cards will no longer be able to be accepted as proof of Right to Rent. This is because the government has switched to the Right to Rent Online Checking Service which is the same service that people from the EU Settlement scheme have been using.
  • Covid adjusted checks can no longer take place - so Right to Rent status can no longer be checked by video call.
  • Online checks now available for British and Irish citizens, using Identification Document Validation Technology. Though standard document checks can still take place.
